I was recently asked who my favorite General Authority of all time is. Without hesitation I replied that it was Boyd K. Packer. In fact I like to think of our relationship as being akin to the Old Testament characters of Jonathan and David.
If I were to liken 1 Sam 18:1 to Boyd and me it would read: “the soul of Boyd was knit with the soul of Bill, and Bill loved him as his own soul.”
Some people nowadays who have not experienced the deep kind of love and respect that men of God can have for each other conclude that David and Jonathan engaged in an inappropriate homosexual relationship. Nothing however could be further from the truth.
Boyd has helped out so many lost souls and is especially concerned with the young boys as shown by his talk entitled 'To the Young Men Only' that appears in leaflet form and is available in chapel libraries and young men classrooms throughout the world. I especially enjoy the part where he talks about the physical changes that young men face as they grow into adulthood where he says:
“As you move closer to manhood, this little factory will sometimes produce an oversupply of substance. The Lord has provided a way for that to be released. It will happen without any help or without any resistance from you. Perhaps, one night you will have a dream. In the course of it the release valve that controls the factory will open and release all that is excess.
The factory and automatic release work on their own schedule. The Lord intended it to be that way. It is to regulate itself. You might fondle yourself and open that release valve. This you shouldn't do, for if you do that, the little factory will speed up. You will then be tempted again and again to release it. Resist that temptation. Do not be guilty of tampering or playing with this sacred power of creation. Keep it in reserve for the time when it can be righteously employed.”
As men of God who have only ever righteously employed this sacred part of our bodies I feel that Boyd and I enjoy a special spiritual bond which can be likened to the one that I have with the Savior.
In the due time of the Lord President Packer will pass on to his eternal glory. When that day comes I will feel as did David after Jonathan’s death. David wrote in 2 Samuel 1:26 (and I will again liken this scripture unto me) “I am distressed for thee, my brother Boyd: very pleasant hast thou been unto me: thy love to me was wonderful, passing the love of women.”
I can testify as did David that the sacred relationship men of God can enjoy with each other can be absolutely wonderful, even more so than the love of women. Boyd K. Packer truly is a lover of my soul and of yours too. I am grateful to have spent precious moments with him during my life including moments in the sacred temple of our Lord. I would encourage all to enjoy his spirit through pondering the marvelous words of wisdom that he has so lovingly shared with us throughout his life of service to the Lord.

what a beautiful expression of male on male friendship
ReplyDeleteThis takes me back to my first taste of Zion, which I experienced while on my mission. There was a strong sense of brotherly love and righteous camaraderie among the Elders. Sadly, several Elders were eventually demoted to junior companion for playing a game where everyone tries to take pictures of the Elder in the shower. But this was only the most extreme manifestation of what was otherwise a supernal tender mercy of the Lord.
ReplyDeleteThat was really sweet of Boyd to give you permission to share such a special post about your relationship, Bill.
ReplyDeleteDuring the Garden of Eden reenactment, who plays the snake? And what fruit is delicious to the taste and very desirable? I don't even need to ask who plays Eve. That would be Boyd. For Sure.
Factory, substance, release...
ReplyDeleteI just love how the brethern speak allegorically!
I often invision a super factory (we have so few real factories anymore) & how the mighty ones of days of old produced so much, - they were the very backbone of the USA! No wonder things are in such an ecconomic slump right now. No factories, no substance, no release of ecconomic flow.
Brother Packer spoke about how to make it have a mind of its own & it will pick up & increase in production. I vote his advice is followed & we pull this ecconomy up out of its slump... Then, truly the elders of zion will have stepped forward & saved the world.
I just love how you make words come alive, President!

ReplyDeleteI understand your deep love for President Boyd K Packer. But I am profoundly distressed by you referring to him only by his first name. I think this is a clear example of speaking ill of the Lords anointed and I am therefore worried that lest you repent, you will be ensnared by the cunning devices of the Adversary!
ReplyDeleteWhile I am not privy to the sacred nature of your relationship, I think that the author of "The unwritten order of things" even President Boyd K Packer, would likely be offended by being referred to solely by his first name.
Also, by using only your first name I believe you are diminishing yourself in the eyes of your humble flock. I fear they may see you as an equal and lose respect for your Priesthood authority and office.

ReplyDeleteI had a Bishop who always referred to himself as Steve. Well, he was Steve & he acted like like Steve. It was easy to forget he was the Bishop.
ReplyDeleteI personally think he was either afraid of being the Bishop or he secrectly rejected it.
" was contacted by someone in a high leadership position and asked to edit my post slightly to not give a wrong impression"
ReplyDeleteI saw that the post was down for a bit yesterday. It was revealed to me that you were receiving further light and knowledge from a higher priesthood authority. Isn't it beautiful how the spirit of the Lord flows through our words and actions to inspire our leaders to loving rebuke?

ReplyDeleteBest Post Ever! The wit and sarcasm and double entendra was so deep, it was like triple entendra. Well done President!
ReplyDeleteSo, President--did Jesus, too, have a little factory?
ReplyDeleteNow that I'm older it seems as though my factory has gone on strike. Or perhaps the Lord in His wisdom has closed my factory and has sent the jobs overseas, and so that's why there are more people in China.

ReplyDeleteHow 'touching'...
ReplyDeleteYour feeling that tenderness between men is even better than tenderness with women is exactly what Brigham Young thought! Kudos to you for progressing spiritually to the point that your mindset is in line with one of the most impressive prophets of all time.
ReplyDeleteAt this rate you'll be GA Paternoster. Maybe Prophet Paternoster!
I feel so blessed to be able to read the words of a prophet in training! It's like I'm getting a preview of revelations to come!
May God continue to groom your mind for your future work, President.
This post reminds me of the admonition in Jacob 3:11: "O my brethren, hearken unto my words; arouse the faculties of your souls; shake yourselves that ye may awake from the slumber of death...". I had to arise and shake myself a bit after reading this one, president.
ReplyDeletePresident Packer is certainly someone when takes great joy in the privileges of leadership. Many young men have blossomed under his guiding hand.

ReplyDelete"Diogenes thank you it really is touching and anonymous I agree that President Packer has touched many many young boys with his guiding hand."
ReplyDeleteLOL! what a sanctimonious prig. i am so glad that i saw the light at the end of the tunnel: existence outside the guilt walls of the LDS 'faith'. only a closet homosexual would believe that masturbation leads to homosexuality (pres. kimball, et al): what do YOU think of when touching yourself? i know i don't think about men, that's for sure.
Right on nynor, Mormonism is sick, sick, sick. How dare they suggest all that's implied here, Jesus is
ReplyDeleteGod, he's righteous and holy, and he's wasn't a polygamist, sex was the last thing on his mind.
I'm surprised Kimball didn't tell the young boys they were going to not only turn gay but go blind to boot!!
Can you imagine being a youth in the Mormon Church and have the Bishop ask you about my sex life anytime the young women/men are going on a temple trip?
Sick, Sick, Sick.
When Mr. Packer expires
ReplyDeleteI will consider joining the church.
amen

Why compare a beautiful male on relationship with that between Jonathan and David? Sure, they loved each other, but what about the relationship between Jesus and John for the perfect example? John never wrote about himself by name; he calls himself the disciple who Jesus loved and mentions those special moments when he leant upon Jesus' breast at the last supper.
ReplyDeleteAnd to some of the others, if a prophet of God says masturbation turns you homosexual then I believe it.. If he is a prophet he is speaking for God, except of course when he is speaking as a man.
President, when you meet with Boyd do you ever discuss business? There are a few posts on this thread about Boyd's little factory which he owns. Has Boyd ever shown you round his little factory?
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet and intimate sentiment you describe, President Patternoster. I can tell you love President Packer even more than your wife, which demonstrates what a truly magnificent testimony you possess.
ReplyDeleteKeep up the good work!
You people should be ashamed of yourselves. How dare you speak about President Packer in that disgusting way. Especially you paternoster, you are the biggest FAKE on the internet!!!!
ReplyDeleteI must say, as a medical man, I'm deeply disturbed by Boyd's talk, though it's probably not what you think. The idea that there is a little factory 'down there' that will begin to work overtime if provided with the right (wrong) environment goes completely against all medical knowledge as to be laughable. However, given that Boyd is actually Pres Packer, a man who has the ear of the Lord, he must be right!
ReplyDeleteI'm deeply concerned that medical knowledge has lagged so far behind the knowledge of the leadership of the Lord's one and only true church, even The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. However, I'm pleased to say that this will no longer be the case. Not only am I a practicing physician, but I am also the department head of a very prestigious medical school (I will withhold the actual name of the school for fear that this post will cause an influx of applicants and overwhelm our admin staff). Just yesterday I taught our new student Pres Packer's doctrine of 'the little factory' and it was well received! Isn't it glorious that through inspired revelation a humble educator (i.e., Ed.D) can teach the medical community things we did not know!
As an aside, I also look forward with earnest till the day that it can be proven that the earth was created in 6 days.
